UNTITLED (Holiday)This is the time of year when we all think about a holiday. It’s almost Christmas and if you live in the southern hemisphere it’s almost summer. I am now on holidays hooray! I have left behind the winter months of My Greek Island Home and all my furry friends to enjoy my other life, my Australian life. This is the time of year I spend with family, and friends in the summer sunshine. The sun is not shining at the moment but it is still a beautiful place to be. I am writing this with my computer perched on my lap looking out across Sydney harbour and through the heads. Although it’s grey there is still activity on the water, sailing boats, ferries and ocean liners float across the horizon in front of me. I have chosen this painting by Matthew Usmar Lauder to accompany this post. It’s a beautiful painting small like a gem and touches me. I love it because it reminds me of holidays, it reminds me of the past and it intrigues me. I hope you love it too.

Heaven! I’m in heaven, I have just received the most wonderful parcel from London, via Matthew. My love of all things sensual is no surprise to most of you, especially those familiar with my first book Sensual Living. My dear friend Louise Barnetson, http://thestanleysupplystore.com is one of the wonderful people I met when I was putting together the book, and I have always been a HUGE fan. Louise has just finished putting together her fab collection and it can be found in the new concept area of Selfidges in London.  What a treat you can actually go in and not only see the collection, but, touch, smell and buy it. All her quality products are handmade in England with wonderful attention to detail. There are large pieces, a dresser, a tressel table and smaller gems, handmade brushes, napkins, leather and fabric cushions and floral scented candles. The fabric design on the cushion has been created by artist, Matthew Usmar Lauder and is a sophisticated and subtle organic design, which fits in with the collection perfectly. The napkins are made of my favourite fabric, linen and are generous in size and soft to touch. My favourite thing if I had to choose though, would be Louise’s scented candles. Louise’s favourite smells are of garden flowers and she has not been tempted to stray. The two scents I have are jasmine and rose geranium and there have been no corners cut in their production. The smells are rich and honest and I have to say the best smelling candles I have ever burnt and I have burnt more than the average person I assure you. They are also beautifully packaged in matt white glass with the simple, The Stanley Supply Store logo. My advice, get into Selfriges and visit The Stanley Suppl Store or go on line http://thestanleysupplystore.com, you won’t be dissapointed. Thank you Louise for sharing what you love and care about most and doing it with such style.

Finally we are getting some perfect Sydney weather. This is one of my most favourite places in the world, Balmoral Beach, in Sydney. Although I have been back in Sydney since September today was my first visit to this very special spot. Balmoral is usually one of my first stops when I come back to Sydney. It’s a place I hold in my heart a place that has so many beautiful memories. As a child growing up in Sydney my parents would pack a picnic and my brother, sister and I in the car and head for Balmoral a harbour beach about 20 minutes drive from home. We would spend the day playing in the sand, building sand castles and swimming. We would also be encouraged to chase seagulls for seagull pie a game my parents invented to keep us entertained. My parents were inventive when it came to games especially my Mum who managed to invent a game for every occasion. She even had a game for us to play when making our beds at home. Balmoral continued to be a favourite as I grew into my teenage years and well beyond. However there were times throughout my teenage years when I abandoned  this pretty harbour gem for the big surf of the Pacific ocean and the bleach blond haired surfers with tanned muscular bodies who adorned it. Such is the distraction of youth! I came back though, could not resist it, how could you. Coming down steep the hill from Military road the view across the blue green water through the Sydney Heads is breathtaking. Stepping onto the grass in bare feet is the first thing I do before making my way down the sandstone stairs and onto the golden sand with its crushed shell texture. The rock formations and rock pools are so inviting and the crystal clear water and feeling of the sand between my toes and under my feet grounds me. Matthew enjoyed sharing this special place with me today. Sydney Harbour at its best!
